BEFORE YOUR FIRST SESSION
Coming for a first Biodynamic Massage Therapy session can feel like a step into the unknown, especially if this
kind of work is new to you. My intention is to offer a calm, respectful, and collaborative space where you can
meet your body with curiosity rather than pressure. You don’t need to know or do anything “right” to begin -
we go at your pace, and we listen together to what your system is ready for. The questions below are here to
give you a clearer sense of what to expect and to help you arrive feeling informed and at ease.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST MASSAGE SESSION?
At the beginning of your first session, I will take a brief life and medical history. All information is treated as strictly confidential. We will explore whatever has brought you to this work, and you are always welcome to share only what feels comfortable for you.
You will then be invited to lie on the massage table and will be covered with a sheet or blanket. I will place a special stethoscope on your lower abdomen in order to listen to the natural rhythms of your body (this is a standard part of biodynamic work and does not involve any medical diagnosis).
It’s helpful to know that this is not a completely “passive” treatment. I will gently invite you to notice sensations, feelings, or shifts in your body during the session. This simple awareness is an important part of the work and supports the body’s natural capacity for regulation and integration.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST TREATMENT?
Biodynamic Massage Therapy may involve some gentle physical movement and is done either fully or partly clothed, so loose, comfortable clothing is recommended (a singlet, vest or t-shirt with loose trousers, shorts or trackies are ideal).
You will be covered with a blanket or sheet to your chest or shoulders, depending on comfort and the temperature of the room. Great care is always taken to ensure that you feel safe, respected, and appropriately covered throughout the session.
WHY DON’T YOU USE OIL IN BIODYNAMIC MASSAGE THERAPY?
Biodynamic Massage Therapy focuses on developing attunement and connection - to your body, your inner experience, and the therapeutic relationship. Skin-to-skin contact is an important part of this process, so oil is generally not used, as it can reduce the quality of direct contact and subtle perception.
Many of the techniques used are less about sliding over the surface of the skin and more about making gentle, specific contact with different layers of tissue, from the skin through to deeper structures. This supports more precise, responsive touch.
CAN I COME JUST FOR ONE SESSION?
You are very welcome to come for a single session, and many people find even one session beneficial.
That said, within biodynamic and body psychotherapy traditions, it is commonly recommended to begin with a short series of sessions (often around six, usually weekly) before reviewing how the work feels for you. This allows enough time for your body and nervous system to become familiar with the process, and for any shifts to unfold gently and sustainably.
There is no obligation to commit to a set number of sessions. We can check in together as we go, and you are always free to pause, continue, or stop at any point. The pace and depth of the work are guided by what feels right for you.
